Dr. Bethany Davidson-Eng

Swine Health Ontario Manager

Dr. Bethany Davidson-Eng received her Ph.D in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph in 2018, as well as her BES in Environment and Resource Studies from the University of Waterloo in 2013. Throughout her doctorate and postdoctoral work, Bethany focused on the relationship between producers’ management practices and soil health in Ontario and Brazil production systems. Bethany became a Professional Agrologist in 2018 and was subsequently elected to the Ontario Institute of Agrologist’s Board of Directors and as the President of the Guelph Branch.

Amy Cronin

Chair and Ontario Pork Representative

Amy Cronin is a hog producer, farmer, business owner and active member of her community in Huron County. Amy has been the Chair of the Ontario Pork Board of Directors since 2012, where she brings the wealth of her experience of the North American hog market to the table. She also served as Chair of the Ontario Agriculture Sustainability Coalition in 2012 and 2013, and actively participates in the Presidents' Council. Amy is a graduate of the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program and Canadian Total Excellence In Agricultural Management.

Clare Schlegel

Ontario Pork Representative

Clare Schlegel has been in the hog business since 1979. He and his wife Catherine live and farm nearby the Schlegel family farm bought in the 1830s in Perth County, which his son Tobin and family now operate. His son Adam is a partner in Schlegelhome Farms, a mid-sized farm that raises broiler chickens, grows crops, and operates a grain elevator and a small trucking business. Clare is a past Chair of Ontario Pork and served as president of the Canadian Pork Council. He received the Carl Block Award for outstanding leadership in animal health.

Dr. Doug MacDougald

DVM, OPIC Swine Health Advisory Board representative

Doug MacDougald, DVM is a veterinarian in South West Ontario Veterinary Services, a Swine Herd Health Management practice based in Ontario. Doug has focused throughout his career on production and health management with a broad knowledge of the economics of the pig industry. In addition to his role on Swine Health Ontario’s Leadership Team, he is also a director of the Stratford Perth Community Foundation, and sector chair of United Way of Perth-Huron.

Dr. Catherine Templeton

DVM, Industry Representative

Dr. Catherine Templeton earned a B. Sc. (Agr.) and a D.V.M. at the University of Guelph. Cathy went on to complete her MBA at Guelph in 2009. Cathy has extensive experience in both pork production management and swine health management. She established Maitland Swine Services in Listowel, Ontario and in 2010 Maitland Swine Services amalgamated with South West Ontario Veterinary Services. Cathy has served as President of the Ontario Association of Swine Veterinarians (OASV), a Director for the Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians (CASV) and as a CASV representative on the Research Committee of the Canadian Swine Health Board. She also is a member of the Ontario Swine Health Advisory Board.

Mark Yungblut

Industry Representative

After graduating from the University of Guelph in 1984 with a degree in Animal Science. Mark then went on to work for 2 years in the pork processing industry, followed by 5 years in Ag Extension, focusing on pig business. For the last 25 years, Mark has worked in the feed business for Molesworth Farm Supply, an independent mill that focuses on the swine Industry. He is currently the President of MFS and has been involved with and managed Synergy Swine since its inception in 1994.

Dr. Christia Arsenault

DVM, OMAFRA Ex-Officio Representative

Christa is a Lead Veterinarian in the Animal Health and Welfare Branch, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and is the OMAFRA co-lead for the Ontario Animal Health Swine Network (OAHN).  She has been involved in the swine industry since graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2006. Christa has worked in private practice, as well as with both the federal government working for Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and provincial government working for OMAFRA over the span of her career. She has sat on the board of the Ontario Association of Swine Veterinarians (OASV) and held the role of President twice for this organization. Christa Arsenault is also the manager of the Canadian Swine Health Intelligence Network (CSHIN) which is a surveillance network that is funded jointly by the Canadian Pork Council and the Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians. She is married and has 2 children, Alice age 9 and Eric age 6.  Her family has a cottage located in the Muskoka’s where they love to relax and spend time together.
